Phytic Acid: Properties and Potential Applications in Dentistry

Inositol hexaphosphate (IP6) is the most abundant inositol phosphate in nature and an essential molecule for different biological functions. IP6 has a unique structure granting it distinctive properties; high negative charge density provides with immense chelating ability valuable antioxidant properties. also simple cost-effective to produce. These features have attracted researchers entrepreneurs further study wide variety of applications areas such as pharmaceutical, food chemical industries, medicine, pharmacy, nutrition, dentistry. The interest dental field unfolded many decades ago following identification cariostatic positive impact on reducing enamel dissolution. Subsequently, IP6’s anti-plaque, anti-calculus cement-forming properties been investigated. Despite encouraging findings, there was phase decreased attention which slowed down research progress. However, potential use recently revisited through several publications that provided deeper understanding into its mechanisms action aforementioned applications. Studies explored new endodontics, adhesive, preventive regenerative dentistry, role improving characteristics performance materials.
